Meals On Wheels

Meals On Wheels

Meals On Wheels is a meal delivery service for seniors or disabled individuals who are unable to prepare nutritious, balanced meals for themselves.  Volunteers deliver a hot tray and cold bagged meal Monday through Friday to Farmington and Unionville residents.  Seven days worth of meals can be delivered. Meals are available on a short or long term basis for a nominal fee.  An income based sliding scale fee is used for seniors on low, fixed incomes. Please contact our office for more information.

Meals On Wheels

Congregate Meals provide an opportunity for Farmington and Unionville seniors to have lunch together to promote socialization and decrease feelings of isolation.  These well-balanced, nutritious meals are served every Monday and Friday at 12 noon for a nominal fee.  Please make a reservation 1 business day in advance by contacting our office.

Medical Equipment Program

The Medical Equipment Program is available for individuals of any age  and from any town. This program allows individuals to borrow medical equipment for a small service charge helping to ensure safety while at home.  Our stockroom contains an assortment of  items, such as walkers, canes, wheelchairs, commodes, shower chairs, tub transfer benches, bedrails and much more. We do accept gently used, clean medical equipment on an appointment basis. Please contact our office to borrow or donate items.

Our volunteer "Friendly Shoppers" provide grocery shopping assistance to seniors who live alone and may need help getting to the grocery store.  The senior has the choice of accompanying the volunteer or making a list of needed grocery items.  The individual requesting assistance is financially responsible for payment of the items. If you are a resident of Farmington or Unionville, please contact our office to enroll in the Friendly Shopping Program.

"It's Good to Get Out" Program

Services for the Elderly offers a wonderful "pick-me-up" to our Farmington homebound seniors.  We provide birthday bags to our Meals On Wheels clients, as well as special gifts throughout the year.  The Farmington Community Chest and the Farmington Garden Club, as well as local churches and individual groups are active community members in these programs. We are also grateful to our volunteers and their commitment to making smiles!

If you are lady who is at least 65, lives alone and no longer drives, who is seeking companionship, fun and  adventure, we have a group for you!  This program will provide an opportunity to make new friends and new memories.  Enjoy a pleasant day in interesting new places. This program also provides transportation for the day trip, free of charge. This program is open to Farmington and Unionville residents.

Volunteers provide Farmington and Unionville seniors with transportation to routine medical and dental appointments in surrounding towns where families and/or other agencies are not available.  There is a 2 ride-per-month limit and a minimum of 2 business days notice for this service.  There is no charge for this service, but all parking fees are to be paid by the participant.

Services for the Elderly maintains a list of people and agencies that, for compensation, will perform various tasks for the elderly. This list is composed of people who provide companion and homemaker services, nursing duties, transportation, odd jobs, etc...  The individual or family seeking services assumes all responsibility for checking the qualifications and references of the provider, as well as all financial responsibilities.

A.A.R.P. Income Tax Assistance

A.A.R.P. Income Tax Assistance

The A.A.R.P. Tax Volunteers provide free tax assistance to Farmington seniors during the regular tax season by appointment. A.A.R.P. Tax Volunteers will be here every Thursday starting the 1st Thursday in February running through the last Thursday before the April 15th tax filing deadline. Appointments may be made by contacting our office after January 1st.
